Last week we put on a our first GEMS event. This group is designed to connect millennials socially within the jewellery industry with the aim of broadening our networks and connecting us all.
We started planning this a few months ago when a friend of mine wanted to meet more people her age in the industry and wanted more openness between the different trades. The jewellery industry is renouned for being a very secretive trade with people not liking to recommend each other.
As the younger generation in this trade, we felt this isn't so much the case with our peers. So 6 of us came together, along with the help of the National Association of Jewellers, to get the group off the ground.
Each of the organisers invited 5 millennials from a broad range of sectors including jewellers, gemologists, CAD designers and engravers.
Our first event was a huge success with 40+ attendees having a great evening of chatting and learning a little more about different areas in the trade, where they might not have had experience in before.
We are now working on our next event which will be held in early autumn.
